Personal freedom.

If you’re used to spending hours in traffic to and from work every day, some of the most exciting advantages to starting a home-based business are your newfound freedom and the retrieval of lost time. The average American spends 348 hours each year commuting, according to the U.S. Federal Highway Administration. Suddenly with starting up a business at home, you have those extra hours to regain control of your personal life. Plus, there are no bosses, no dress code, no set work schedule, and no office politics to maneuver. All you need is personal drive, discipline, and time-management skills.

You get to keep the money you make

It’s a simple principle: the harder you work, the more money you can make. Your earning potential is directly proportional to your performance, so you don’t have to wait for a raise or a promotion. You work harder, and you produce more. You’ll also save money on gas and food. Preparing lunch at home is more cost efficient and offers a nice break in your workday.

Increased opportunity

With so many corporations and industries in a slump, starting your own home-based enterprise means you can create your own income-producing opportunities. Good job prospects can be scarce in some industries, and promotional opportunities within major companies are also shrinking.

Less risk

Running a business from home takes much less startup cash than a freestanding business, or even a franchise location. And once your business is up and running, it’s cheaper and easier to maintain than a separate business location.

Tax advantages

There are a number of tax advantages to having your home and office under one roof. You can deduct a part of your home’s operating and depreciation expenses on your home as business expenses. This can be a percentage of your mortgage, property taxes, insurance, utilities, and/or the expenses of household maintenance.

More time for friends and family

This is especially important for parents of school-age children: you can see the kids off to school and on most days be home when they return. Also, if someone is sick, it’s easier to leave your home’s desk than one in someone else’s office.

Less stress

It’s a little less stressful to juggle the demands of work and family when you know you can stay home to care for a sick child and generally set your own schedule.

Opportunities for professional growth

Being your own boss gives you the chance to wear a lot of hats: sales director, marketing professional, strategist, business development manager, and more. This gives you insight into and experience with all the aspects of running a business, which, in turn, makes you even more marketable.

Increased productivity

Now that you no longer have to budget time and energy for commuting or a succession of useless meetings, you should have a lot more time and energy to make your business a success.

A creative outlet

Launching your home-based can be an opportunity for you to give birth to your passions and hobbies and create a money-generating outlet for your unique and creative talents.

Did you know that in today’s digital world on the internet?, you can now start your own online business from scratch, from the comfort of your own home, and do so whilst also raising a family?

You’re probably wondering, is it really possible?

The answer is YES. I’ve done it! And here’s how.

If you have found yourself here on this page, you’ve probably thought about starting your own business, probably more than once, but have always found reasons not to. So many things cross our mind like:

  • How am I going to find the time?
  • How can I let the prospect of starting a business not take away too much of my time from my family?
  • It’s too stressful!
  • I’m going to need bucket loads of cash which I don’t have to invest in my new business to get it up and running…
  • Will I have to leave my current day job?
  • What if it doesn’t work?
  • I have no idea where to start!

Here’s the truth – I was in exactly the same position as you. Each time I thought about starting my own business, these questions started coming to mind and I always ended up not following through.

The reality is, in today’s digital world, it has become a lot easier to start your own business at home. And it’s even possible to do so while still working a day job and raising a family!

People tend to wonder whether this is really realistic. How can you have a regular day job, start a business and care for your family all at the same time? Well, I can tell you that it absolutely is realistic.

What was really important to me was not just the fact I wanted to be able to make money with my own business. But I wanted to find something I could really be passionate about. I wanted to follow the advice of one of my favourite gurus, Simon Sinek, and set myself up with a business that I love.

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion”. – Simon Sinek.

What kind of business can you run from home?

In 1975, Steve Jobs started Apple in his parents’ garage. In 2020, according to Forbes, Apple’s brand was worth well over $200 billion, making it the most valuable brand in the world at the time. Now I’m not saying that if you start your business in your garage you will turn into the next Steve Jobs! However, the reality is that nowadays, it is actually easier to start a business from home than it was in 1975. And the best part about is, it can all be done online.

Starting up a business at home with Affiliate Marketing.

So what business models can work from home?

Affiliate marketing is a great business at home online to start with. This is where you sell other businesses products and get a commission that you don’t need to make the product. You don’t have to worry about developing a product or finding a location to set up shop. And you don’t have to worry about having to do any fulfilment or delivery. As an affiliate, you can choose to promote and sell an unlimited amount of products or services. And the beauty of it is that you can sell those products many times over, from the comfort of your own home, and schedule your hours around your family. So even when you’re spending some quality time with the family, you are busy growing your income as you grow your sales!.

Important: in this case, you need find a good product and true affiliate company to join

Starting up a business at home with E-commerce

It is quite common for those new to online marketing to first test the waters by becoming successful affiliate marketers. This was the strategy I chose. Having said that, another option is to sell physical products with an E-commerce business. This doesn’t mean that you have to become an inventor overnight and start developing your own products. Instead, you can find products which already exist and which you endorse, order them in bulk at a fraction of the cost and then set up a sales system.

With Amazon FBA it has now become much more appealing to set up an E-commerce business as Amazon will do the heavy lifting for you. You don’t have to worry about processing payments from customers, dealing with the packaging, distributing, and customer service as this is all done for you. Instead, you can focus your energy on selling the products and setting up marketing and ad campaigns to make those sales happen. The great thing about this is that, like affiliate marketing, it can be done from the comfort of your own home and you can adjust your hours around your family!

Something to consider as you go into this

The important thing to remember is that, whatever you are reselling, the first 10 sales are going to be the hardest. But as the sales start to come in, you will start building confidence and gaining experience which will only propel you forward. You’ll learn exactly how many sales you need to be making each week, month and year to allow you to have as much time as possible with your family, whilst also making sure that you are growing your business and achieving your goal in becoming financially self-reliant.

People always want the ultimate answer to the question “how long is it going to take?” The truth of the matter is that everyone’s circumstances are different. What it ultimately comes down to is how committed you are to learning the right digital skills you need to succeed. It is easy to procrastinate sometimes… it happened to me! But with the right motivation, you can truly begin to believe that you can give your family the life they deserve!
